MEMOIR

Documentary short

This is easily the most personal project I've ever undertaken, mainly because it features my immediate family and also because it was a return to filming in Tasmania after seven years, something I'm determined to not leave as long again. My mother and one of my biggest inspirations , Heather Rose, and her memoir ‘Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here’ tells the complicated history of our family and her life, through a beautiful mix of recollection, pantheistic spirituality and cooking recipes.

In making a documentary about my family, I was thrilled to approach my grandparents and conduct long interviews around a variety of topics, as well as interviewing Heather around the obligations of an author to be honest, even at the risk of compromising a familial bond.

This would never have been possible without the encouragement of Ursula Woods and the funding of ABC Arts and Screen Tasmania.
